The UK Government’s plan is to ban petrol and diesel cars from our roads by 2040. This week Mitsubishi Motors announced a great step forward in their hybrid vehicle plans.
The latest version of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has now completed WLTP (Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure) Testing and has a CO2 figure of 46 g/km, meaning that it will be classified as an Ultra-Low Emission Vehicle eligible for the £2500 Government Plug-in Car Grant.
WLTP was introduced to give real life data on emissions rather than lab conditions. It means that the test is more stringent than the current NEDC test. For a transition period, a formula is applied to WLTP figures to give the car an equivalent NEDC reading. The Outlander PHEV’s NEDC calculated figure is 40 g/km meaning that this results in NO difference in BIK classification. You can see why Mitubishi are delighted!
The new Outlander PHEV features an all new “Atkinson Cycle” 2.4 Litre Petrol Engine which provides a more refined and efficient driving experience. The battery capacity also benefits from a 15% increase.
We’ll be able to quote you on the new model soon. In the meantime, the current model gives the same CO2 figures and is great value! Click here to find out more.
