FAQs

Looking at leasing a vehicle? Here's your guide to the most common questions and technical jargon you're likely to come across.

What is vehicle leasing?

Vehicle leasing is a financing option where you pay to use a car, van or minibus for a specified period, usually 2-4 years, without owning it. At the end of the lease, you return the vehicle.

How does leasing differ from buying a vehicle?

When you lease a vehicle, you only pay for the depreciation of the vehicle during the lease term, whereas buying involves paying for the full value of the vehicle, eventually leading to ownership.

What is the typical duration of a vehicle lease?

Most vehicle leases range from 24 to 48 months, though shorter and longer leases may be available  - contact our team to find out more.

What are the advantages of leasing a vehicle?

Leasing often provides lower monthly payments compared to buying, the ability to drive a new car every few years, and lower repair costs since the vehicle is usually under warranty during the lease.

Are there mileage limits with a vehicle lease?

Yes, leases include an annual mileage limit, you can choose your mileage when you confirm your contract. Exceeding this limit can result in extra charges when the lease ends so it’s important to be accurate when estimating your lease. We keep in touch with all of our customers to ensure they are on track with mileage throughout their contract.

What happens at the end of a vehicle lease?

At the end of the lease, you simply return the vehicle and lease a new vehicle.

Can I end a vehicle lease early?

Yes, but ending a lease early may incur penalties or fees. These costs can vary depending on the terms of your lease agreement. Please contact our team if you require assistance.

What is a residual value in leasing?

The residual value is the car's estimated worth at the end of the lease term. This value affects your monthly payments.

Do I need to make a down payment when leasing a vehicle?

Yes – when we provide you with your personalised leasing quote we will provide options on the up front payment and subsequent monthly costs. The higher the initial payment, the lower your monthly rentals.

What costs should I expect with a vehicle lease?

Typical costs include the initial payment (down payment or fees), monthly payments, maintenance costs (if you choose a fully maintained contract), and charges for excess mileage or wear and tear.

Can I lease a used vehicle?

YES! We have a range of used electric cars and Plug in Hybrid (PHEV) cars - take a look here

Who is responsible for maintenance and repairs on a leased car?

Maintenance can be added to your car leasing agreement for a fixed additional monthly cost, to cover servicing, replacement tyres and other repair costs. It is the driver’s responsibility to ensure the vehicle is kept within ‘fair wear and tear’ guidelines. Advice on fair wear and tear can be found here. https://www.bvrla.co.uk/resource/looking-after-your-leased-vehicle-what-you-need-to-know-and-do.html

How does insurance work for a leased vehicle?

You need to carry full coverage insurance (comprehensive and collision) on a leased car, and lease agreements often specify minimum insurance requirements.

Can I customize or modify a leased vehicle?

No, most lease agreements prohibit significant modifications to the vehicle. You must return the vehicle in its original condition, minus normal wear and tear.
