Your Lease Car Abroad

When taking a contract hire vehicle abroad for business or pleasure it is necessary to obtain the appropriate paperwork to comply with European legislation. If you don’t, you may be fined or your car could be impounded. It is the driver’s responsibility to have the right documents, the most important being a formal document called a VE103B.

The driver is responsible for obtaining the "Vehicle on Hire" certificate (VE103B) from the company which is leasing the car, i.e. Lex Autolease, Arval, Leaseplan, Santander. Click here for contact numbers.

You should apply for the certificate at least fourteen days before the date of travel. The certificate is normally for 12 months. Please contact your Fleet Manager prior to completing this form as there may be a charge to you or your company for this service, dependent upon the leasing company and the type of your contract. You should also ensure that you take out European Breakdown Cover but this may be included already so check with the leasing company when applying for the certificate.

Driving in Europe

Some countries impose legal requirements with regard to certain equipment that the driver or vehicle should carry whilst driving abroad. Our Driving in Europe - Country Checklist can be used as a guide for what equipment or documentation is required. Please note that whilst reasonable care is taken to ensure this document is accurate, we cannot guarantee its accuracy. Legislation can change on a daily basis and it is the drivers' responsibility to make sure they fully adhere to the current requirements imposed by each country.
