Maintaining your Electric Vehicle (EV)

Maintaining your Electric Vehicle (EV)

Maintaining an electric car (EV) is generally simpler and requires fewer maintenance tasks compared to traditional petrol or diesel vehicles. If you decide to take out a maintenance package when you take out your lease contract, your regular servicing and maintenance will be taken care of, however as with all vehicles, there are some checks you can do at regular intervals to ensure EV remains in good working condition.

Regular Charging Routine:

Charge your EV regularly to keep the battery within an optimal state of charge. Most EVs have a recommended range for daily charging (e.g., 20-80% or 30-70%) to minimize wear on the battery.

Keep it clean:

As with any car ensuring your keep your car in a clean condition will limit damage to paintwork and upholstery – and may reduce any costs incurred when you return your vehicle as part of the Fair Wear and Tear agreement.

Maintain Tyre Pressure:

Keep your tyres properly inflated as underinflated tires can reduce efficiency and range. Check the tyre pressure regularly, as you would with any vehicle.

Rotate and Balance Tyres:

Rotate and balance the tyres as recommended by the manufacturer to ensure even wear and maintain stability.

Brake Maintenance:

EVs often use regenerative braking to slow down, which reduces traditional brake wear. However, it's still essential to have your brakes inspected as part of regular maintenance.

Cooling System Check:

Ensure that the cooling system for the battery and electric motor is working correctly. Overheating can be detrimental to the performance and lifespan of these components. If you notice any issues contact a professional.

Inspect the Battery:

Periodically check the battery for any signs of damage or abnormal behaviour. If you notice anything unusual contact a professional.
